The Winter Military World Games are a multi-sports event organized for military athletes once every four years (one year prior to holding the Winter Olympic Games).
The decision to hold the 3rd Winter Military World Games in Russia was made on May 22, 2015, in Kuwait, at the 70th General Assembly of the International Military Sports Council (CISM). The presentation of the Games in Sochi took place in October, 2015, in South Korea, at the VI Summer Military World Games of CISM.
The 3rd Winter Military World Games will be held from February 22 to February 28, 2017.
The sports program of the 3rd Winter Military World Games of 2017 includes seven sports:
- biathlon (including patrol race);
- cross-country skiing;
- mountain skiing;
- ski mountaineering;
- short track;
- indoor rock climbing;
- ski orienteering.
